I finally have some "after" pictures of the renovation! This is the den -- here's a picture of the new built-in tv cabinet (aka, "the world's most expensive plumbing chase" - to hide the plumbing from our new upstairs bathroom). You can see my new desk on the far right.

This is the new fireplace in the kitchen. This brick chimney was covered in plaster and hidden behind some new kitchen cabinets. We had the plaster chipped off and were disappointed to find there was no original firebox. But that did not deter Roger who was deteremined to have a fireplace in the kitchen! It's now a gas coal grate (which you can't really see). Hanging to the right of the fireplace is an old tool that we found in the yard one day when we were gardening. anyone care to hazard a guess as to what it is? It appears as though some part has broken off on the right side. The poster hanging above it is an original WW1 poster from 1919 (the year our house was finished). It hung in my kitchen growing up and was a gift from my mom - we love it!

Here is our new banquette -- the girls love eating in the kitchen and so do I! We took out a small pantry to make it, but re-used the doors in the girls' play room. The brackets holding up the shelves are replicas of the decorative brackets outside the house.

Here is the main part of the kitchen. The countertops are soapstone - which you might remember from your highschool chemistry labs.

This is the new built-in china cabinet and fireplace in the dining room. We know that originally there as a fireplace in this room, but it had been covered up at some point. We re-opened the firebox and used the mantle in the den as inspiration for this one. I just love how they turned out!
The upstairs doesn't look too much diffrent from what I've posted previously. That's all for now!

House looks great! My guess is a shovel handle for the tool you found. (Cara)
