First dayof kindergarten!

Mary Clare started Kindergarten this week! She was very excited and ready to get started. Here she is wearing her uniform in her school picture - which she alternates between loving and hating (luckily, mostly loving). Even "Ella" has her own uniform!

This is the sign that we display in the car during pick-up.

Ijust love this picture - she looks so happy and excited (and yellow (her blankie) is on the floor next to her).

She actually started wearing her uniform a few days before school started - here she is enjoying a giant bowl of ice cream last Friday after she had her school shots - boo hoo! It was adorable - she wore it for several days (including to her own birthday party - until she changed into her bathing suit).

This picture was taken on my phone and shows her sitting in her classroom - her teacher's father died two days before school began and she missed their first orientation day, so I took her by to see the room and practice getting from the drop-off point to her room (no walking her into school this year!). In fact, today was her second day of school, and I still haven't met the teacher - today she went home early because her high school-age daughter may have the swine flu! All reports are that she is a fabulous teacher, so I am excited to meet her. This is one of her assistant teachers (there are 2) reading to the class on Registration Day.

On "Registration Day" all the children and parents meet for an assembly. The Headmaster of the Lower School at BGA (Battle Ground Academy) - Dr. Graham, addressed everyone, and then called each class to the front of the auditorium - each child individually. They started with the 4th graders. Here is a video of Mary Clare being announced and walking up to take her place with her class. She jumped right up and seemed so confident. Later she told us she was nervous, but she did great!

Here she is filing out of the auditorium with her class.

And here she is on the first day as she and Roger got ready to head out! It was hard not to be there to drop her off on the first day, but since BGA has a firm "no walking to the classroom" rule, I thought it was best to just start out the way we would keep going, and have Roger drive the "Daddy-mobile." She was wonderful and so happy when I picked her up. I think it's going to be a great year!
