Surprise girls!

At the beginning of the summer Roger and I promised the girls that we would update their rooms.  They felt that their colors (yellow for MC and green for Erin) were too "babyish".  And their decor needed some help - they still had their nursery quilts on their walls and Erin's rug had elephants and giraffes on it.  They felt that, at the ripe old age of 6 and 8, it was time to leave their little girls room behind.  Sniff.  As things always seem to, the whole process took longer than we hoped.  By the time the first day of school was approaching I realized that it would be fun to try to stall them so that I could redo their rooms one day while they were at school.  I got the painters, electrician and furniture delivery folks all lined up and last Wednesday we pulled it off.  As soon as Roger left with them for school, I dashed upstairs and began ripping their bedding off the beds, moving furniture around, taking out rugs, etc.  Oksana came to help me and we did it!

When I picked them up from school, I stopped them in the driveway and told them that their rooms were done (see the video above).
This is Erin's reaction to seeing her room for the first time.

And here is Mary Clare's -- she is more subdued, but I think the whole experience meant more to her.  Mary Clare loves her new chandelier and sconce (which took me hours and many broken fingernails to put together), the color of her room, and how much more grown-up it feels.

Mary Clare's new reading area.  We plan to replace the chair soon.

Her cool desk area.

Bo loves her room, too!
