Well, the renovation continues at break-neck speed. The electrician is already starting to rough-in all the outlets and lighting. However, it looks like a war zone! This first picture is the view out the windows. You can see that they've had to take some of the plaster down where we removed an arch. The arch was not original so we decided to remove it to help with the cabinet design and open up the kitchen a bit -- and when we did . . we discovered this --

This is the ceiling . . . if you look closely you can see that years ago a load-bearing wall was removed and never adequately replaced. I guess the arch was their attempt. It's a good thing that we decided to take it out and get alook at what was up there! So this will require some framing work to get everything put back together.

This corner will be our built-in banquette (that's fancy for bench seating). I'm so excited to have an eat-in kitchen! No more picking peas out of our dining room rug.

This is the back of our chimney. We're hoping to put a fireplace in it so we'll have one in the kitchen.
This is the otherside of that chimney in the dining room. Years ago someone closed up the fireplace and walled over it. We've had built-in cabinets made to go on either side of it and replicated a mantle from our den. I think it will look great when it's all done.
