So much to report around here! Last Monday night, Erin fell down in our upstairs hallway and broke her nose. I still can't believe it. We had just picked up Grandma from the airport and we were all in Mary Clare's room. Erin went into her room and was running back to us when I heard her fall and then a pause and screaming. When I got to her she was pretty upset and there was lots of blood. Thankfully Roger had just called to say he was on his way home, so when he arrived we headed to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital's Emergency room. She was a real trooper and after a CT scan and many hours we were sent home. I didn't realize it, but this is the only photo of her in the days after it happened. You can see the swelling and bruises - but she has healed very quickly and its hard to tell anything is wrong. We met with a plastic surgeon this week and in a few weeks we'll go back to see whether she needs surgery to minimize the bump that she has.
In the meantime, Dylan (our dog) has been in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee Vet School waiting for a total hip replacement. Roger took him on Easter Sunday so he could have some pre-operative tests done on Monday. His surgery was supposed to be on Tuesday but they called that morning to say that they needed to get "a part" -- what is this, a new muffler?! In any case, after waiting until today (Thursday), it was postponed again. They sedated him and got him on the operating table and began to shave his hip when they discovered a mild rash (skin infection). So, they are sending him home for 2-3 weeks of antibiotics. Tomorrow the girls and I will drive to pick him up (6 hours one way!). I'm sure he'll be happy to see us, but very confused about why we went through all that trouble just to get him what will surely be the worst grooming he as ever had!
