Last Thursday night the forecasters were calling for a big snow storm. We've heard that before and been disappointed, so I really wasn't expecting much. Roger was in Birmingham for work, and I had a bad cold - so perhaps that contributed to my total lack of preparation for what turned into the storm of the year! Mary Clare had a snow day on Friday - a rarity at her school. By mid-day on Friday the roads were white and the snow was really piling up. But then the ice came -- so the 4-5 inches that we had was covered by a crust of ice all weekend. And the roads were fairly slick, but passable in most cases. Our side street was just a big toboggan run -- all weekend I heard cars try to climb the modest hill, spin their wheels and then back down and try another way out to West Main Street. Poor Dylan had a rough time - he wasn't heavy enough to break through the icy crust and couldn't get any traction. He pretty much slipped around until he found a soft spot to crash into. The girls really enjoyed themselves - pretending they were figure skaters spinning in circles on the front walk and the driveway! The garden looked magical - the trees and plants were all covered in icy crystals.
