First Day of School!!

I can't believe this day has come -- both girls are in elementary school this year. I can remember when they were babies and thinking about how far away that seemed. Five years can fly by in a flash! Here they are before we left home on the morning of "Registration Day" - this is the day before the first real day of school - but it always feels like the first day of school because they have to wear their uniforms and be at school by 8 am. Basically, it is a big assembly and the kids get called up by name, grade level and class to the front of the gym. They line up with their teachers and classmates for a picture and then file out to go visit their classrooms for the first time. The parents stay behind to hear from the principal and then we head to the classrooms to fill out paperwork and meet the teachers. You can see that Erin was a little anxious even though she would come home with us that day.

Here they are in the audience waiting for it all to start -- Erin is still a little nervous! They were glad to be able to sit with their friend John.
Mary Clare was cool as a cucumber -- she is a big second grader now!
Here is Mary Clare's class. Her teacher Mrs. Lankford is on the right and the assistant Ms. Williams is in yellow. Mary Clare is in the front row, fourth from the left.
This is Erin's class. Her two assistants (Mrs. Perez and Mrs. Moran are on the left, and her teacher Mrs. Woodall is on the right). Erin is all the way on the left in the front row.
Back in the classroom, Ms. Kay (Woodall) read to the children while we filled out paperwork. Roger was in Mary Clare's class and I forgot two cameras, so I only have pictures from Erin's room.

Here is Erin listening so nicely!

And posing with Ms. Kay -- who was also Mary Clare's teacher. We just loved her so we are all exited for another great kindergarten year!

This is the next day - the first "real" day of school. They are holding the signs that I use in the pick-up line.

And this is afterwards when I picked them up. Erin was so excited to be able to *be* picked up, rather than being in the car with me, waiting to pick up Mary Clare. (Mary Clare is, of course, mortified that I am taking pictures in the parking lot!)
And this gives you some idea of what her hair looks like after just a half-day of school. It looks like she had fun!
