Merry Christmas!

It's been a busy few days at the Jones household. On Friday afternoon, Roger arrived home early - as planned and we were able to sneak out for a little while while the girls' napped at Oksana stayed at the house. That night, Erin began to get Mary Clare's cold and her sleeping has been pretty horrible since then - oh well, it was nice while it lasted!

On Saturday morning, we were watching Dora the Explorer (of course) on tv, when all of a sudden the power went out! At first, I thought we had lost power completely because several rooms (on all three floors) lost power, but other parts of the house retained it. We tried checking the breakers but couldn't figure out the problem. Our regular electricians were closed for the holidays. However -- this was such kismet! -- I had the cell number for the electrician who did all the work on the basement for us. We tried the number and he answered (amazing enough right there!) -- but he happened to be driving right by our house and was there immediately. He's quite a character and was incredibly nice. Even though he was on his way to pick up some gifts, he stayed long enough to diagnose the problem. It was actually quite frightening -- it turns out one of the two main lines bringing power into the house from the street had a loose connection. It had completely charred the box on the outside of the house and melted our electrical meter. That's why we only had power in half of the house! This required re-wiring the connection to the house and a trip from the electric company. If we hadn't noticed right away and weren't able to track down the electrician that morning, we might have been without power all weekend. So, what could have been really inconvenient - or worse - turned out to be just a major nuisance. Although, you can see from this photo that we'll need more work -- the new electric meter didn't fit correclty so the electrician used cardboard and duct tape (seriously!!) to re-wire it. He swears it's safe - I hope so!

Anyway, after that we had a fairly uneventful rest of the weekend -- two trip to the park, and the beautiful Christmas eve service. Both girls were real troopers -- Mary Clare had a few moments of using her "outside voice" in church, but all in all was great.

So, the big event -- Christmas! Mary Clare was really excited on Saturday when we talked to "Santa" on the phone (Tina's dad). I wish I had a picture of her face -- she really couldn't believe that she was talking to Santa! She seemed to flustered that when he asked what she wanted for Christmas, she gave her usual answer (a blue-eyed Cinderella doll), but then couldn't think of anything else and just started naming the things in the room. She literally asked for a chair! This morning when she woke up, she seemed to have forgotten about the whole thing. She said she wanted to watch tv! But once we got downstairs she was excited to go look at what Santa had brought. She liked seeing that Santa had eaten all the blueberries she had left him (her choice) and the carrot for Rudolph had chew marks on it.
Mary Clare also got a big play house from Santa -- here are some photos of her playing with it today -- she loves it!
